Twice as much Third Floor

I’ve not had a chance to write in Duckrabbit for ages. Mainly, my new job is very demanding, and on the other hand, Third Floor Gallery has been growing. Now, in addittion to the Third Floor Gallery space, we also have the Second Floor Extension, located just below. The first show there was Vincent Delbrouck’s “V.D.”, a beautiful and eclectic mix of Vincent’s life through photography. The show really inspired and breathed photography through and through. Coming up there, we have tonight the opening of Rikard Laving’s “Caravan”. Again, a fairly non-documentary documentary with Scandinavian flavour. You can have a peek in his website. Couple of images of the Second Floor:

And last Friday we had an opening that I had really been looking forwards to. For many reasons, such as seeing for the first time the work and knowing it would be a busy and fun night. “The Last Resort” by Martin Parr and Tom Wood. It opened to a great crowd, and in the raffle there were all kinds of things (including the unpublished Atlanta book by Martin Parr). The photographs, iconic images from the 80’s, many of them so familiar that you needed to see them in the flesh for really appreciate them. It’s fairly amazing that we managed to put the show up, really. Again we didn’t have any money in the account, but somehow sorted out printing and postage. Tom staid at mine overnight which saved some money, and Otley Brewery contributed the ales for the night (Tom Wood can testify for their quality). Lack of money always makes for interesting conversation. The morning started with a good fry up with Tom with conversation on music, photography, and UK energy policy. One of the interesting topics that often comes up is the balance between work, life and photography. I’m in the camp that prefers to work on something unrelated to photography. I often think I’d stress too much if it was all I did, and also that I’d lose touch with reality (including routine).

Memorable photo of the opening:

So, yeah, less time for everything (don’t ask me about pressing the shutter), but good fun and good company. At least we have money to buy pins!

Should have mentioned, first two images by Dimitra Kountiou, last image by Martin Hanna.
