What they say about duckrabbit:

'One of the hazards of publishing a well-known photojournalism blog - getting multimedia like yours, where the photos are both powerful and moving, and I end up in tears at my desk.'

Alan Taylor, Boston Big Picture)

'David White's multimedia work with duckrabbit is very exciting.'

Kate Edwards (Guardian Magazine Picture Editor)

'I am a fan of duckrabbit. I am not a fan because I agree with everything Ben has to say, but because he says it without frills and then will spend the time necessary to engage the consequent discussions. Such commitment is a priceless commodity.'

Prison Photography

'I met one of them at an academic conference in the summer. He was the sanest person there, but sure enough by damn gadnabbit ruffled more than a few fluffed up peacock feathers.'

The Photography Pages

'If you haven't seen the duckrabbit blog on multimedia you should.'

Stephen Alvarez

'duckrabbit has done another jaw-dropping job with Condition Critical, a highly commendable and important project for Medecins Sans Frontiers.'

Photography Still Moving Seminar, June 19th (multimedia storytelling and how to make money from it)

A few posts back I mentioned that I was looking forward to the pleasure of some of our readers company on June 19th.  That’s because duckrabbit is running  a day long multimedia storytelling master class in London. (BOOK HERE) If you’re a photographer or a journalist looking to take the leap, but need some inspiration and some practical guidance then the day is just right for you. And at 45 squids its a steal.

We’re also looking for one participant to supply a set of photos that we can make into a feature on the day.  Could it be you?

The event is being put on by the brilliant people at Rhubarb-Rhubarb and will take place at Direct Studios.

Here’s the BLURB:

It may be one of the toughest times ever to be a photographer but it’s also one of the most creatively exiting.  The web has offered a multitude of exciting possibilities for getting photography out to new and ever increasing audiences but many photographers in the UK remain in the dark.

Creating a digital voice for your work might not be the magic bullet for your career but without one the decline could be terminal.  Advertising agencies, galleries, newspapers, broadcasters are all thinking about one thing. How do we reach more people in deeper and more powerful ways?  Photographers who want to thrive need to be asking the same question and coming up with some of the answers.

Photography Still Moving will explore just how still photographers from all disciplines can make the leap to digital storytelling.  We’ll show you the tools you need, as well as sharing how you can make money from multimedia.  One lucky participant who submits a set of pictures in advance will also have their work transformed into a multimedia feature on the day.

The sessions during the day will include:

  • WTF is multimedia?
  • Getting to grips with the kit (on a budget)
  • Sound for idiots (interviewing techniques)
  • I got pictures, I got sound, now what?
  • Show me the money

Adam Westbrook will be giving the kit talk and also as a special treat the oh so talented Anna Stevens will be showing and talking about her work heading up PANOS PICTURES multimedia ambitions.

You can find out what lovely things people say about our training here.

It may seem fanciful to suggest that one can learn multimedia story telling in just a couple of days, but Duckrabbit gave us everything we needed from skills in interviewing and audio editing to image selection techniques in that short time. And did in such a way that left us with a passion to develop further. A transformative experience.

Gareth Dent, Chief Executive, Open College of the Arts

“I’ve been raving about how good your training was . To end up with something close to a finished and seriously professional-looking/sounding audio slideshow after just 2 days was awesome.

Before doing this training I felt I could have a decent stab at recording audio in the Congo. I now know that it would have taken some sort of miracle for me to get really useful audio. I now have the tools to come back with something a bit special. Thank you.”

Robin Meldrum, publications officer MSF
