What they say about duckrabbit:

'One of the hazards of publishing a well-known photojournalism blog - getting multimedia like yours, where the photos are both powerful and moving, and I end up in tears at my desk.'

Alan Taylor, Boston Big Picture)

'David White's multimedia work with duckrabbit is very exciting.'

Kate Edwards (Guardian Magazine Picture Editor)

'I am a fan of duckrabbit. I am not a fan because I agree with everything Ben has to say, but because he says it without frills and then will spend the time necessary to engage the consequent discussions. Such commitment is a priceless commodity.'

Prison Photography

'I met one of them at an academic conference in the summer. He was the sanest person there, but sure enough by damn gadnabbit ruffled more than a few fluffed up peacock feathers.'

The Photography Pages

'If you haven't seen the duckrabbit blog on multimedia you should.'

Stephen Alvarez

'duckrabbit has done another jaw-dropping job with Condition Critical, a highly commendable and important project for Medecins Sans Frontiers.'

Cine Institute, Jacmel; a clarification and introduction

Andrew Bigosinski, Director of the Cine Institute film school, Jacmel, has recently posted a comment clarifying their position regarding certain “Photo Aid” projects in Haiti:

“The Cine Institute of Jacmel has not agreed to partner in any “Photo Aid” projects. This is a misrepresentation of an agreement we had prior to this great crisis and no one in the Cine Institute Administration has agreed to this amended photo workshop objective. We ask that all references to the Cine Institute and our students be removed from this amended Workshop offer. It in no way reflects the interest of the Cine Institute, or the Cine Institute efforts in this great catastrophe that we are all trying desperately to heal from.”

This would be the perfect time to introduce you all to the Cine Institute..

Their mission:

“Using the power of cinema, integrated educational programming, technical t raining and media production support, Ciné Institute educates and empowers Haitian youth who seek the creative, technical and business skills necessary to grow local media industries that can provide jobs and spur economic growth needed to improve their lives and the lives of others.”

It looks to me like they’re doing an important job very successfully…this video shows why without any need for words from me:

le jour du seisme (Day of the eathquake) from Ciné Institute on Vimeo.

The switch from normality to chaos in that clip is terrifying.

Keep up with the Institute’s work through their facebook page, and help out if you can.

  • why hasn’t this been seen by more people? really powerful stuff – there’s an eerie quietness in the aftermath I thought, a kind of controlled panic. Very apocalyptic.
