What they say about duckrabbit:

'One of the hazards of publishing a well-known photojournalism blog - getting multimedia like yours, where the photos are both powerful and moving, and I end up in tears at my desk.'

Alan Taylor, Boston Big Picture)

'David White's multimedia work with duckrabbit is very exciting.'

Kate Edwards (Guardian Magazine Picture Editor)

'I am a fan of duckrabbit. I am not a fan because I agree with everything Ben has to say, but because he says it without frills and then will spend the time necessary to engage the consequent discussions. Such commitment is a priceless commodity.'

Prison Photography

'I met one of them at an academic conference in the summer. He was the sanest person there, but sure enough by damn gadnabbit ruffled more than a few fluffed up peacock feathers.'

The Photography Pages

'If you haven't seen the duckrabbit blog on multimedia you should.'

Stephen Alvarez

'duckrabbit has done another jaw-dropping job with Condition Critical, a highly commendable and important project for Medecins Sans Frontiers.'

Survival!

Just read some interesting views from Jean-Francois Leroy, founder of Visa pour l’Image. He is talking about how agencies have helped kill photojournalism. He has some interesting points, it’s worth a read.
I was also struck by this line: “The festival will also host multimedia projects for the first time. ‘We’re not doing it because it’s fashionable, but because it’s about photographers’ survival”
That is a telling line. This man knows his onions, believe me. If you want to boost your chances of survival sign yourself up to duckrabbit’s training at the Trinity centre…It’s no good pretending you’re going to make a living using only your leaky Holga, your battered summicron and your ‘eye’…

The growing trend of news websites to use readers images, all of which are submitted royalty-free, can’t help this situation. The BBC even has a “guide” (less than 200 words) on its website to shooting a photo essay. With a mobile phone or compact digital camera everyone becomes a photojournalist. Ok I’m a reader rather than a photojournalist, but I’m noticing a gradual drop in quality in some areas of photojournalism on these sites as a result.
