I agree in seeing the tragic trend in associating war/conflict photography with the chance to be "quickly" recognised through awards, festival and grants. This has triggered in young photographers the idea that if they cover a conflict of some sort, they will be "famous" and eventually praised as "courageous" "cool" adventurers/photographers, while they do not necessarily have any experience or training nor any particular photographic skills.

However you wish to put it, at the end of the day, in such competitive environment, what appears to be ultimately celebrated is the photographer himself and his "hero-like" characteristics, rather than placing a real substantial focus on the subjects covered by them. I think that's sad!

Thanks SJ. Yes its a real shame that honest work can get you so far into a 'mess'. However, like you, if a parent wishes an image retracted, I'd agree. It's really not worth the distress it causes them and the damage it can cause you too.

I just had removed some photographs from my Google page and my facebook page after a parent retracted their consent. I guess I could of been funny and said they were taken in a public place and you agreed but to be honest there are so many horror stories out there it's not surprising that parents are worried. It's a shame because there are some beautiful photo's that I now won't use on my site or pages because of their concerns but also my best ones so far too - always the way isn't it :) Really enjoyed your post.

I've seen burly gentlemen with transit pick ups searching for 'scrap' metal round the back of my house too. My advice get into old MG's Morrises, Austins, or Triumphs. They rotted so badly that there's plenty of engines left over! I have an old MGB roadster and my local dealer has half a barn full of serviceable 1800cc B series engines. And a field full of terminal MGB GT shells

Bugger. I wouldn't know how to weld, or what to do with an engine that wasn't in a car, but I know bastards when I'm told about them.
