An American Life

A recurring topic of conversation for many of the journalists and photographers I know is the responsibilities that go hand in hand with picking up a camera, an audio recorder or indeed a pen and paper with the intention of telling other people’s stories. As is the motivation for highlighting their plight in the first [...]

Duh..it's project bluebeam, stupid.

Well well well. This’ll give you something to think about…either for 10 seconds, or possibly the rest of your life, depending on your mindset. For some unknown reason I found myself on the odious Daily Mail website looking at this picture.

Quite a pic. Then I started to read the comments, always fun seeing [...]

“Voices from the edge of climate change” – Guardian

Have a look at the wonderful images and good use of the interputerweb on the Guardian’s site. It is worth a few minutes of your time.

Great presentation, strong imagery, interesting stories. Just one thing…the title….there are no voices to be heard.

Portishead release new track for Amnesty

Its a shame they didn’t stick an embeddable version on their website because I would have linked back!

It's work Jim, but not as we know it...

Superstar snapper Mr. Jimmy Nachtwey needs some unpaid help. Maybe your unpaid help. For three months. You’ve got to be skilled mind… no ham fisted gimp grapplers needed. Pop over here to see the qualifications you need to have (being an idiot is somehow lacking from the list). It’s quite a list. Being minted isn’t [...]

Ed Kashi reports from bombing in Lahore

The renowned photographer Ed Kashi has just posted a powerful account of the recent bombing in Lahore.

Tuesday, December 08, 2009 Lahore Bombing/Journal Entry Lahore… As I was preparing to leave tonight there was a terrible bombing in Lahore. We dispatched and I’ve just spent the past two hours walking through the smoldering ruins of [...]

The world’s longest Panoramic photograph?

“I’ve never seen a place like this, it’s like a third world country you know”

Just wish more photographers told stories about the developing world with the depth and insight of this production by the Los Angeles Times.

Somebody taught this filmmaker how to listen …

Photojournalists, come on get over yourself (a response)

I was in a small village in the hills of Nepal to meet with the family of a student I taught English to 13 yrs ago. He had been murdered by the army in 2005 for being a supporter of the Maoist insurgency. I spent nearly five hours talking, photographing and recording a video interview. [...]

This month’s post on Resolve

duckrabbit is an occasional contributor to RESOLVE

This month I’ve been so knackered working on a project for MSF (which I haven’t even blogged about on here yet) that grumpinesss got the better of me:

Multimedia of the Month: Is online ideal for images?

During a recent talk at Amnesty International, I freaked out the [...]

Photojournalists, please just get over yourself

People do not hang around to be depressed. The media overexposes us to images of suffering I think, consistently giving us two messages: 1) there is really nothing one person can do to affect these overwhelming problems, and 2) money donated to Africa will be diverted by corrupt governments and aid agencies and never get [...]

Just another great comment

A few posts back I commented on another set of photographs of limb chopped Africans. Tom White from Photography Lot (an awesome blog with some of the best writing anywhere) just popped up with this comment:

A good friend of mine was born in Sierra Leone and has worked on a variety of projects in [...]
