What they say about duckrabbit:

'One of the hazards of publishing a well-known photojournalism blog - getting multimedia like yours, where the photos are both powerful and moving, and I end up in tears at my desk.'

Alan Taylor, Boston Big Picture)

'David White's multimedia work with duckrabbit is very exciting.'

Kate Edwards (Guardian Magazine Picture Editor)

'I am a fan of duckrabbit. I am not a fan because I agree with everything Ben has to say, but because he says it without frills and then will spend the time necessary to engage the consequent discussions. Such commitment is a priceless commodity.'

Prison Photography

'I met one of them at an academic conference in the summer. He was the sanest person there, but sure enough by damn gadnabbit ruffled more than a few fluffed up peacock feathers.'

The Photography Pages

'If you haven't seen the duckrabbit blog on multimedia you should.'

Stephen Alvarez

'duckrabbit has done another jaw-dropping job with Condition Critical, a highly commendable and important project for Medecins Sans Frontiers.'

Vic Chesnutt - RIP

True, Eileen, True

I went into UNC wanting to study photojournalism. I was quickly introduced to the world of multimedia narrative storytelling, which I love. I love the way a narrative (when edited properly and tightly) makes visuals come alive. A few weeks ago, I was watching a series by the LA Times about gang violence. The [...]

Seeing as its Christmas time and the sherry is in full flow

Here’s a little treat … Share and enjoy … (warning, lots of bad language and images of pissed Brits)

Do unto others ...

Very roughly some 2000 years ago we nailed some bloke called Jesus to a tree.

Nothing new about that. Nailing people to trees was a rather effective form of crowd control.

Since then though a lot of people have been following this Jesus bloke. One of his oft quoted mantras was treat other people [...]

World Press Photo Multimedia 2011..watch this space..

Just as I was beginning to think I was not going to get a response from Amsterdam regarding the lack of a multimedia category, ( it’s not like they’ve got much to do at this time of year…) I got a short and sweet answer from Michiel Munneke, Managing Director himself.

He explains that [...]

Happy Xmas, Christmas, holidays, Cmas, etc etc..

duckrabbit would like to wish all our readers a great Christmas, holiday, December 25th etc etc. I hope you all have a good one. Just in case we don’t get to see you before the new year, we hope 2010 is a better year for you than 2009.

Not much more to say [...]

Jericos

I saw this on multimedia shooter…quite a ride…check out what else they’ve got going on over there…it’s a great way to spend some time.

The music really helps drive the piece..of course the photography is fantastic, well done to Anderson.

I noticed at the end of the piece that Anderson has tried to gain [...]

Tsunami - five years on

It’s hard to believe that Saturday will mark five years since the devastating south Asian Tsunami which claimed some 300,000 lives. To mark this anniversary – hardly one to celebrate – DFID, the department for international development, dispatched Panos photographer Abbie Trayler Smith to show how British money has helped rebuild shattered lives in [...]

Some kind of wonderful

Check out this post on the Phil Coomes’ BBC blog.

It’s very moving and the photos that accompany it are a punch to the stomach.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

If you wanted people to take your photography competition seriously you’d pick someone independent to chair the judging of the photojournalism category, right?

Damn we’re just so naive at duckrabbit …

Sony Photography Photo Awards:

Photojournalism and Documentary categories are: Chair, Aidan Sullivan (UK), Vice President Getty Images

The Vision and the Voice

A few days back I exchanged emails with the photographer Stephen Alvarez, who for the last fifteen years has shot for National Geographic. He suggested we take the conversation onto our blogs.

If you’re not aware of his work than I would say it is characterized by being both hard won and sublime:

duckrabbit wholeheartedly recommends the thinking person's alternative to

us:

WOW ... just ...WOW

I found this again whilst cleaning up round t’back…it is amazing, and funny, and you need to watch it. Again.

A Nachtwey intern speaks to the duckrabbit

I imagine most of you will be aware of the brouhaha (what a great word) concerning the ad for an unpaid intern to help James Nachtwey. That little ad has caused quite a stir, and rightly so imo. The one thing missing from the debate (how I wish it were more like a debate [...]

World Press not doing multimedia

Ok…I want to know why the World Press Foundation have not yet acknowledged the fact that multimedia is a huge voice in the modern world of photojournalism. Really, I want to know why there is yet again no multimedia category. Error.

I really thought this year would be the first where they allow multimedia [...]

Proof that we just don't give a shit about climate change?

Oxfam have billed it as possibly the most important meeting in history. And it probably is, until the next one.

We are of course talking about the Copehagen Climate talks.

But after a week of, well not a lot, do people care?

Take a look at David’s pictures in the post below. All snapped [...]

Karail slum, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Morning of Eid, 2009.

I thought I would do the mess around (thanks Ray) with the blog a bit. Whack a bit of real life in there, make you valuable viewers work your finger a bit. Playing with perspective if you like.

Always a good thing, perspective.

This is a collection of photos that I caught one morning [...]

(click on photo, the video player will load, then click again to play)

It’s one of those moments you don’t forget.

This term I’ve been a guest lecturer at Birmingham City University.  I sat twenty students down in front of one of the four videos we’ve been producing for MSF (more [...]

BBC school of journalism opens its doors, at least to people in the UK

Some good stuff from Phil Coomes, the BBC’s picture editor who also turns out to be a top bloke.

Some days a few words of encouragement in an email can make all the difference

Thank you Robert and Stephen

This is the best I can offer in return:
