What they say about duckrabbit:

'One of the hazards of publishing a well-known photojournalism blog - getting multimedia like yours, where the photos are both powerful and moving, and I end up in tears at my desk.'

Alan Taylor, Boston Big Picture)

'David White's multimedia work with duckrabbit is very exciting.'

Kate Edwards (Guardian Magazine Picture Editor)

'I am a fan of duckrabbit. I am not a fan because I agree with everything Ben has to say, but because he says it without frills and then will spend the time necessary to engage the consequent discussions. Such commitment is a priceless commodity.'

Prison Photography

'I met one of them at an academic conference in the summer. He was the sanest person there, but sure enough by damn gadnabbit ruffled more than a few fluffed up peacock feathers.'

The Photography Pages

'If you haven't seen the duckrabbit blog on multimedia you should.'

Stephen Alvarez

'duckrabbit has done another jaw-dropping job with Condition Critical, a highly commendable and important project for Medecins Sans Frontiers.'

Negotiations…

Aaah…here is a real world lesson in photographer/client relationships. See if you can guess which is which…

Survival!

Just read some interesting views from Jean-Francois Leroy, founder of Visa pour l’Image. He is talking about how agencies have helped kill photojournalism. He has some interesting points, it’s worth a read.
I was also struck by this line: “The festival will also host multimedia projects for the first time. ‘We’re not doing it because it’s [...]

A hop, skip, and a ha-ha jump.

I don’t know much about ha-ha’s, but they make me laugh (drum roll please). My gaff’s not big enough to warrant such extravaganze, but I was at a wedding at the weekend (see below) and there was a ha-ha there. I had taken along my Leica and a few rolls of c41 black and white. [...]

Wedding fun!

Yep, you read that right. With a carefully planned drinking strategy, weddings can be fun
Seriously, I went to a quality wedding last weekend. I had a great day and it was a beautiful venue, and the couple getting married are alright too…;)
I took along a camera for fun, and got some sweet shots. It [...]

Great work:)

I have been stumbling around the interweb when I came across some wonderful photography here.

There is a fantastic and diverse collection of work on the site, well worth some of your precious time.

The blogging half of duckrabbit is away for a week …

where there is no internet, but lots of wind and rain and other things that will do me good.

Have you heard the light?

Photographer Oliver Edwards has. He’s just  signed up for duckrabbit’s first Trinity Session.

The Trinity Sessions are for photographers and journalists who want to get their head round multimedia storytelling and in particular recording audio for slideshows.

Oliver has a degree in documentary photography from Newport University. The moving photos here are from a job Oliver did [...]

Voice-over or subtitle?

Last week I gave a presentation of duckrabbit’s work at DFID Pakistan. One of the questions that came up was whether you should use voice-overs or subtitles when someone foreign is speaking in their mother tongue?

Nine times out of ten its a no brainer. The voice is so important.

Its not just what people say but [...]

Why journalists deserve low pay

Interesting……

Mridu Khullar thinks:

also worth reading is a response by freelance journalist Erik Sherman.

Why Readers Deserve No Journalism: http://industry.bnet.com/media/10002308/why-readers-deserve-no-journalism/

The voice is nothing but beaten air

A few months ago I emailed a friend of mine who works in the Kibera slum in Nairobi suggesting they take a look at an amazing set of photos by Jehad Nga taken in the same slum.

‘My Shadow. My Opponent’ explores the lives, spaces and activities associated with boxing clubs in Kibera.

Instinctively I knew [...]

Pete Brook’s obvious love of life is measured in sorrow

that’s why his blog is what conscientious people would be reading,

if only they could get beyond themselves.

Don’t be put off by how important this stuff is.

STAN BANOS of Reprocity Failure fame says:

When I first learned of his site, I thought to myself- that certainly is one unique niche alright, but how the hell is he [...]

RESOLVE to be part of the solution

Forward thinking photographers are being drawn together into an inspiring community of ‘doers’ around the blog RESOLVE.

It’s editor, Miki Johnson, is slowly and lovingly building a great resource of information and inspiration. She’s got me hooked.

That’s why duckrabbit are dead chuffed to be asked to contribute.

Our first post has just been published, but besides [...]

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”

So said the Henry Miller.

It’s with a rush then that I’ve just taken in GMB Akash’s photo set Take me Home:

Due to Bangladesh’s large population, inadequate seats on the trains and poverty, it is quite common to see a thick layer of people occupying the roof of a train. Frequent accidents, which occur when [...]

Adam Westbrook – One Week In Iraq

Congratulations to Adam Westbrook for losing his multimedia virginity on this ambitious project:

After quite a few weeks of work (and a trip to Iraq) my first ever multimedia project went online last week. It’s called One Week In Iraq and I hope it’s a vibrant snapshot of what life is like for the final British [...]

Finally the BBC are going BIG on pictures

The BBC website has over the years given photojournalism a hard time.  Great photos have often been displayed so poorly that they are rendered meaningless.

Lets face it when it comes to pictures SIZE MATTERS.

I was dead chuffed then to visit the BBC website tonight and see that finally they are giving pics the space and [...]
