What they say about duckrabbit: 'One of the hazards of publishing a well-known photojournalism blog - getting multimedia like yours, where the photos are both powerful and moving, and I end up in tears at my desk.'
Alan Taylor, Boston Big Picture)
'David White's multimedia work with duckrabbit is very exciting.'
Kate Edwards (Guardian Magazine Picture Editor)
'I am a fan of duckrabbit. I am not a fan because I agree with everything Ben has to say, but because he says it without frills and then will spend the time necessary to engage the consequent discussions. Such commitment is a priceless commodity.'
Prison Photography
'I met one of them at an academic conference in the summer. He was the sanest person there, but sure enough by damn gadnabbit ruffled more than a few fluffed up peacock feathers.'
The Photography Pages
'If you haven't seen the duckrabbit blog on multimedia you should.'
Stephen Alvarez
'duckrabbit has done another jaw-dropping job with Condition Critical, a highly commendable and important project for Medecins Sans Frontiers.'

and not a drop to drink.
That was the horror faced by the cursed inhabitants of Coleridge’s poem The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.
Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere,
Nor any drop to drink.
Not a [...]

windscreen flooded with a blackened French sky, one shooting star caught out of the corner of my eye, kids sleeping in the back, take a moment, make a wish, keep it secret.
Must be all that peace and love rolling round Christmas but wished that we could all have a little bit more happiness in our [...]

now that’s a first for the duckrabbit blog. I flicked on google earth with the boys to find out how Father Christmas is doing only to discover he’s currently delivering in IRAQ!¬† That must be one hell of a risk assessment form!
Lets just hope he’s not really a suicide bomber in festive disguise.

Damn that was unexpected.
Skyped an old boss of mine today.¬† Just one of those people you can’t help but admire and who seems incapable of taking more than they give. Her older brother has been hit with a stroke and she’s now in South Africa feeding him though a tube.
Brutal.
At the end of the conversation [...]

it’s like living in a tomb.”
Its a powerful image of a harsh life lived by Christian Arabs in Bethlehem, found in this audio slideshow  by Martha Rial in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
We only ever hear about loss from that part of the world. Linger too long and hope becomes a figment of the imagination.  Not [...]

A regular duckrabbit reader and good mate of mine (aren’t you all my friends?) emailed me to say that I needed to get my arse over to the Boston Big Picture Blog.
And I did.
Phillip Boyce Choir (said friend) was taken with this powerful set of photos shot in Greece during the recent riots.
That’s probably because [...]

I think the duckrabbit blog deserves a musical interlude. God knows we’ve earned it. And actually for me this piece of audio beats any other I’ve heard this year, hands down (including all the digital journalism we’ve included on the site).

The Committee to Protect Journalists website features an interesting audio slideshow about the lack of press freedom in Zimbabwe.
Anyone with knowledge of the country won’t be surprised by the feature, but that’s not the point. This is a much more powerful form of advocacy, of getting the message out there than a press release or [...]

This is a thoughtful audio slideshow in which Julia Ruedig searches deep inside her own reflections to make sense of contemporary China. Occasionally she spins a breathtakingly beautiful sentence,
‘Nothing is more precious than progress’
Julia could learn a trick or to from the BBC’s From Our Own Correspondent, but then couldn’t we all.
Don’t be caught trying [...]

I just spotted this on the BBC and thought I would post it before I crash.
Its another cracking audio slideshow by Paul Kerley.
Very simple but very effective, the slideshow remembers the Lockerbie disaster:
‘The quiet Scottish town of Lockerbie was brought suddenly and shockingly to the world’s attention on a wintry evening 20 years ago.
The bombing [...]

Well that’s proof for me.
The Guardian is running an exclusive set of photos by Zalmai
‘Exclusive photography by Zalma?Ø of the Nakivale refugee camp in Uganda. The settlement hosts 34,000 refugees mainly from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Somalia, Burundi, Ethiopia and Eritrea. It receives all new arrivals coming to Uganda from Congo.’

duckrabbit have been lucky enough to work with Organic Veg box producers Riverford for a few months now.
Riverford are the UK’s largest, and if their customers are anything to go by, best veg box supplier.¬† They were started twenty years ago by Guy Watson, with little more than a wheelbarrow and three acres of land.

Duckrabbit Warning – this is only for hardcore photographers (of which there are many)
Chris Morgan practices wet plate collodian photography. Why is not obvious, and that’s perhaps why this technical audio slideshow isn’t putting the va va voom into my weekend … however you have to respect anyone with both the curiosity and passion to [...]

Don’t worry duckrabbit’s not about to get all self help on you but I thought I’d just share an experience recently that really touched me.

There is something extraordinarily poetic about this short film by the World Food Programme that has done more to make me want to give something this Christmas then any other appeal I’ve seen.¬† As a father I just want to pick this little boy up in my arms and tell him that everything is [...]
