Imber village open this weekend
Written by David WhiteThe lost village of Imber is open this weekend. Get yourself down there…it has an atmosphere all it’s own..
It has been shut since January so that the soldiers can pretend they’re in Afghanistan.
Here are some details from the custodian of Imber church, Neil Skelton:
“During September Imber village will be open to the public for two days and for the first time since January. The church will be open on Saturday 18th from 10.00 am until 6.00 pm and on Sunday 19th September 11.00 am until 5.00 pm. The annual St Gilestide service is at 1500 hours on Saturday. On both days refreshments will be available in the church.
The month of August saw completion of the five-year campaign of repair to the Grade I listed church left isolated by the evacuation of the village in 1943.
On Saturday only the Bath Bus Company will run a bus service between Warminster and Tilshead and the Bustard Hotel. Those without their own transport can use this service (23A) to attend the church service.
